Welcome to the website for St. Clare Retreats-silent, contemplative, prayerful half-day and yearly weekend retreats.

Who helps you when you have questions about your faith… when that little voice in your head says “Is this all there is?”…or when you experience that visceral feeling that you should be “doing something else”? Many call upon a woman who’s made peace with where she’s been and is excited about the journey ahead. Linda Douty doesn’t have all the answers, but she can help guide you on your own path to growth. Trained in philosophy, comparative religion, and music, she has completed the Academy for Spiritual Formation(serving in a leadership capacity) and the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Guidance. Traveling around the United States, she juggles her time as a retreat leader, teacher, book reviewer, spiritual director, and writer with another favorite vocation—her role as “Lindy” to her five grandchildren. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee and writes for several publications. Her next book is being written on the challenging issues in the second half of life.

Previous Retreat: April 2: Good Friday, 2010

“I think most of us found this a powerful, compelling experience: following Barbara Brown Taylor’s magnificent sermons in Home By Another Way for Good Friday, we heard Jesus’ Seven Last Words from the Cross in her unforgettable images. For me, being with a group of women, gathered around the Cross, and staying with the agony of the day made this a Good Friday I will always remember. We had Communion from Reserved SAcrament, using the Good Fridayliturgy, then walked quietly to a simple lunch, which we ate in silence. We left St. Columba is silence and it was quite a while before I felt like speaking at all.” –Rev. Mimsy Jones, St. Clare Retreats founder and spiritual guide.
